Nominees unveiled for 4th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards

The 4th Annual Latin GRAMMY® Award nominations were announced on July 22nd at a celebrity-filled press conference attended by international media at the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Miami. In a year that showcased exceptional young singer/songwriters, the nominations feature many talented newcomers who will soon be sharing the spotlight with established artists. Additionally, members of the creative community who usually work behind-the-scenes — producers, engineers and songwriters — will take center stage as the international music community looks to September 3. The 4th Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards, to be held at Miami's AmericanAirlines Arena, will be broadcast live by the CBS Television Network from 9 – 11 p.m. ET/PT.

Sergio George led the nominations with six; Juanes and Gustavo Santaolalla both took five; and Natalia Lafourcade and Anibal Kerpel earned four nominations each. A diverse contingent of artists — including Ricardo Arjona, David Bisbal, Rubén Blades, Elvis Crespo, Paquito D'Rivera, India, Milton Nascimento, Alexandre Pires, A.B. Quintanilla III, Joan Sebastian, and Caetano Veloso, among others — took two nods apiece. Superstars Pepe Aguilar, Banda El Recodo, Tego Calderón, Chayanne, Franco De Vita, Alejandro Fernández, Vicente Fernández, Gilberto Gil, Enrique Iglesias, Jaguares, La Ley, Limite, Maná, Luis Miguel, Emilio Navaira, Jennifer Peña, Serrat, Shakira, Olga Tañon, Thalia, and Nestor Torres, among many others, each earned nominations.

"We are very pleased by the multi-cultural caliber of talent and music reflected by this year's Latin GRAMMY nominees," said Gabriel Abaroa, President of the Latin Recording Academy. "At a time when piracy and copyright infringement have eroded the music industry, it is important for us to spotlight the kind of musical riches that are threatened by these activities. These nominees, representing their cultures from all around the globe, highlight the vitality of Latin music and will help make this year's Latin GRAMMY celebration the most dynamic yet."

The six nominations earned by producer and songwriter Sergio George include Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year, and Best Tropical Song for Bacilos' "Mi Primer Millón," and Album Of The Year for Bacilos' Caraluna. George earned a second nod in the Best Tropical Song category for "La Salsa Vive" (performed by Tito Nieves).

A four-time Latin GRAMMY-winner, singer/songwriter Juanes earned five nominations, including Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year for "Es Por Ti," Album Of The Year and Best Rock Solo Vocal Album for Un Día Normal, and Best Rock Song for "Mala Gente." Producer Gustavo Santaolalla also earned five nods of his own, for Album Of The Year, Best Classical Album, Producer Of The Year, and twice in the Record Of The Year category.

Earning four nominations, up-and-coming singer/songwriter Natalia Lafourcade was nominated for Best New Artist as well as Song Of The Year and Best Rock Song for "En El 2000," and Best Rock Solo Vocal Album for her self-titled debut. Engineer Anibal Kerpel also earned four nods: Album Of The Year for his collaboration with Juanes, Best Classical Album for work with the Kronos Quartet, and two Record Of The Year nominations for his work with Juanes and Molotov.
