Belts for Women: Ten Tips
Belts for Women: Ten Tips
Belts come in all kinds of shapes, sizes, colors, and materials. Because of this variety, a different belt can radically transform your look. When choosing a belt, it’s wise to pay attention to what works for your body and your sense of style. Here are ten tips to help.
- If you’re thin, flaunt your belt. It accentuates your waist. If you’re a bigger woman, you might want to be careful about the belt you choose – or at least aware of how it directs attention.
- Belts change your look. Shiny buckles can clash with other jewelry; muted brass is usually inconspicuous. A leather belt on a pair of jeans looks dramatically different from a fringed belt slung-low on the waist.
- Speaking of jeans, belts are optional. With trendier denim, almost any variation of belt or no-belt goes.
- Your belt helps pull an outfit together, so make sure your belt works with what you’re wearing. Accessories are a fashion statement.
- If you’re wearing a wide belt, let it rest on your hips. This makes you look taller. A wide belt on your true waist can look like a corset.
- If you’re leather free, that doesn’t mean you have to be belt free – grosgrain belts work fine.
- Make sure your belt is long enough. Pants are lower these days, which means belts should be longer, too.
- Vintage western belt buckles are in and so are hand-painted leather belts. Lightweight tie belts seem to be a new thing, and belts with a bow in the front have been in a lot of magazines. Belts that go over the belt loops, rather than through them, look good with the 80s pants.
- White belts have been in for a couple of years now. Wear them with flats or boots. A bejeweled belt over a long, flowing dress or skirt can look great.
- Be creative with your belt. They work with dresses, peasant tops, skirts, jeans – pretty much any outfit can put together. Have fun!
