Interview
What inspired you to become a model?
I actually hadn't even entertained the idea until I attended a model search. I was only there to support a friend and I ended up winning a free ticket to Los Angeles to compete at the IMTA. At the IMTA convention I won Male Model of the Year and Most Sought after Male Model. The rest is history.
How has your life changed since you were Male Model of the Year at the IMTA convention?
I've gone on to pursue a wonderful and successful career and I've traveled the world.
Tell us about your favorite booking?
I just finished shooting a campaign for Armand Basi in Barcelona, Spain. Barcelona is an amazing and beautiful city and I hope I can return there soon.
Tell us about the collections. What was it like to work the runways for top designers?
During show season, it's one week of solid castings then one week of shows. The shows are so compressed that it isn't uncommon to only get 4 to 5 hours of sleep a night. It's a lot of work, but it's very exciting.
What is your next booking?
I'll be shooting a campaign for Polo Jeans with Bruce Weber on the beaches of South Carolina.
Which jobs have made the most impact on your career?
Last summer, I shot the cover of Italian Vogue with Steven Meisel and that helped to increase my exposure. I also shot an editorial with Palo Roversi for the January issue of L'Uoma Vogue.
What is a typical day for you?
After I wake up in the morning, I call or go to the agency to find out what my schedule for the day will be. If I don't have shoots all day, I spend my time on go-sees or castings. At the end of the day, I go to the gym to unwind, then I make sure I get plenty of sleep so I'm ready for the next day.
Who is the most interesting person you have met since you began modeling?
My booker, Alana Verrel, has been fundamental in guiding my career and she has become a good friend who has opened the door to new and exciting experiences. Ashton Kutcher is a Next model discovered at an IMTA convention and we're so much alike that we do a lot together and we're good friends.
What's the best thing about modeling?
I get to travel to many different areas of the world and that's not something I would have been able to do on my own in a lifetime.
What is the best thing about attending an IMTA convention?
There are so many great agencies throughout the world that you could never see all of them in one lifetime. IMTA provides you with an opportunity to be exposed to all of them at the same time. For the agencies it's like a shopping mall, lots of great faces under the same roof.
Would you recommend the IMTA convention to a model trying to break into the industry?
Absolutely! It's an opportunity of a lifetime and one that accelerated a career I never knew I could have.
