Legendary tailored clothing buyer Jim Edelman has died - Men's Style & Fashion

Jim Edelman, often called the King of Tailored Clothing, a major figure on the retail scene and a fixture at Macy's and Federated Department Stores for more than 30 years, has died suddenly. No other details are immediately available. Jim was revered by his colleagues and vendors alike for his amazing ability to predict and serve the needs of his customers, for his extensive knowledge of the categories for which he was responsible, and for being a genuinely nice person despite his powerful position.

MR's Editor-in-Chief, and Jim's good friend, Karen Alberg commented that "Jimmy loved this industry with all his heart -- both the people and the product. He knew all the figures on every clothing category down to the smallest detail and loved discussing nuances in the business. He was an amazing friend and cared so much about his vendors, both professionally and personally. He had a wonderful laugh and was able to laugh at himself. He was so proud of his family. He was the first phone call I'd make when writing about suits and he never failed to inspire me."

Members of the clothing community around the country are shocked and saddened by his sudden departure from the scene. MRketplace will have more details, as well as comments from colleagues and friends in the MR News Flash this afternoon.
